Welcome
Everyone enjoys a high quality, green planted, landscape in the areas they live and work.
However, it’s more than just appearance that is beneficial, and the level of green planting local authorities offer will ultimately have widespread implications to local residents in terms of health and crime levels as well as economic and educational performance.
Local authorities face huge challenges in delivering progress in local service provisions – many of which are now targeted through statutory initiatives such as Local Area Agreements and Regional Spatial Strategies. With the many different areas of responsibility that call on a local authority’s time, Greening the UK is keen that environmental concerns, and notably green planting, are not put to one side.
Greener Planning, Greener UK has been written by horticulturalist, landscape architect and environmental adviser Chris Baines with consultation from landscape and planning experts, to highlight practical ways through which planting and green space can be used to meet local authority targets.
Thank you for reading.
